The New Frontier of Luxury Travel: Floating Wellness Retreats Redefine Wellbeing at Sea
JOMO is the new FOMO. For the uninitiated, JOMO — coined by entrepreneur Anil Dash — stands for the Joy of Missing Out. Once perceived as a social failure, doing nothing has become an increasingly seductive prospect in a frenetic digital age.
As more travellers choose spa and yoga retreats over city breaks, the luxury travel and wellness industries have merged to adapt to this fundamental shift in demand. And one of the latest trends is taking things to the extreme: meet the floating wellness retreat — a luxury yacht designed entirely around health, peace, and rejuvenation.

The Rise of Superyacht Wellness Retreats
Ultra-high-net-worth individuals have always viewed superyachts as leisure assets. Steven Spielberg has one. Kylie Jenner spent her twenty-fifth birthday on one. Celebrities from Anne Hathaway to Harry Styles are routinely spotted sur la mer.
But in recent times, yachts have begun offering something more profound than parties or PDA. Instead, they are being reimagined as a glamorous way to completely unplug and disconnect from the trials and tribulations of modern life — by going out to sea.
An ocean setting, with its serene waves and sunrise views, supplies a calm and tranquillity that aligns perfectly with wellness’ focus on mindful relaxation.
When the yacht-design company Olesinski revealed its 70-metre concept Rise, the managing director promised “a no-compromise spa zone that has every luxury.”

The Asia Global Yachting company, which offers yacht charters in Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, and Myanmar, provides a range of concierge services that allow guests to design a personalised stay for their bespoke wellness needs.
Guests can request a private chef, a nutritionist, a massage therapist, a personal yoga teacher, and even a meditation expert to ensure that every voyage nourishes their health and wellbeing. As is customary on the grandest superyachts, every detail is tailored to the individual’s desires.
At Camper & Nicholsons, four yachts have been designed specifically with wellness in mind. A 54.6-metre vessel called C features two pools with glass walls positioned so that the light plays beautifully as rays hit the surrounding beach club.

For fitness enthusiasts, there is a fully equipped gym with a white-and-turquoise colour scheme and a Turkish hammam to relax in afterwards. Another Camper & Nicholsons yacht, Stradivarius, offers an outward-facing Finnish sauna as part of its wellness package, allowing guests to enjoy gorgeous vistas of the open water.
Their Project X superyacht goes further still, with a 7.5-metre swimming pool, a waterfall feature, a Technomar gym, and two Jacuzzis.
Two members of the very Miami-jazzy Saluzi superyacht crew are dedicated spa therapists who offer an extensive list of treatments.
And not all floating wellness retreats are superyachts in the strictest sense. The luxury cruise ship Celebrity Beyond accommodates more than 3,200 passengers, and the range of health and wellness facilities on board is phenomenal.
Travelling through Spain, France, and Portugal, the ship has partnered with leaders in luxury wellbeing — including Elemis, F45 Training, and Peloton. The interiors, designed by Kelly Hoppen, include private verandas, king-sized beds, and cashmere mattresses.
Bedrooms are stocked with high-end fitness and beauty products curated by Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, which has partnered with Celebrity Cruises since 2020.
As if that’s not enough, there’s also a Spa Café with a detox smoothie created by Goop, along with Gwyneth-approved HIIT workouts, guided meditations, and infrared saunas. The Sea Thermal Suite offers a relaxation circuit featuring eight rooms — from rainwater therapy and a steam room to an amethyst-coated crystalarium.
There’s even a restaurant, Blu, whose Michelin-starred chef crafts sustainable seafood and decadent, plant-based dishes to ensure everyone on board is nourished from the inside out.
By having everything you need (and more) on a vessel in the middle of the sea, these extraordinary experiences allow you to truly relish il dolce far niente — the sweetness of doing nothing.
Completely removed from the pressure of productivity, smartphones, and urban life, a floating wellness retreat allows you to slow down, think, and savour small, significant moments without relentless distractions.
Biohacking and Regenerative Wellness
If yoga decks and hammams speak to the ancient, biohacking represents the cutting edge of modern wellbeing. This evidence-based approach to optimising physical and mental performance transforms longevity into the new luxury.
On Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s 136-metre megayacht Flying Fox, a cryo-sauna reaches –110 °C to soothe muscles post-workout. TJB Superyachts, operating from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, partners with Geneviv Clinic, pioneers in anti-ageing and regenerative medicine.

Treatments include exosomes (“a cell’s text message,” as Vogue described them), Quantum Molecular Resonance therapy, and Hydrogen Inhalation — all enhancing vitality. Edmiston Superyachts even curates Blue Zone-inspired charters through the Riviera and Monte Carlo, blending Mediterranean diets with wellness science.
There are also Quantum Molecular Resonance treatments, which use low-intensity electrical fields to stimulate skin regeneration and promote tissue repair.
Lastly, Geneviv Clinic is offering Hydrogen Inhalation which has a number of health benefits, from anti-aging to improved cardiovascular health.
Edminston superyachts even detail opulent Blue Zone-inspired charters through the French Riviera and Monte Carlo which take their cues from regions such as Sardinia in Italy or Ikaria in Greece known for their inhabitants’ exceptional longevity.
Luxury dining aboard these superyachts is rich in heart-healthy fats such as olive oil and fresh seafood, borrowing from their gorgeous Mediterranean surroundings a well-balanced food philosophy.
It’s tempting to assume that superyacht cuisine consists of champagne and caviar. But especially after the pandemic, there is a growing demand for plant-based cuisine.
In fact, the company Vegan Superyacht began in 2014 to support specialist diet provisioning in superyachts across Monaco, Cannes, Antibes and Juan les Pins.

Plant-based diets have been proven to have a number of health benefits, from boosted energy levels to lowered blood pressure and disease prevention.
It seems biohacking trends are being incorporated into superyacht wellness packages more and more because they resist performative pampering, address root causes and use smart technologies to treat health preventatively. The results speak for themselves.
Wellness Is Contagious
We’ve talked about wellness in terms of fitness, food, skincare, and longevity technology. But one of the best things we can do for our wellbeing is to help others. Studies show that altruistic acts measurably enhance longevity.
Many marine hubs now encourage travellers to make sustainable choices that protect oceanic life. Numerous yachts subscribe to The Clear Ocean Pact, launched by Richard Orme in 2018, pledging to eliminate single-use plastics.
Chakra, owned by Superyachts Monaco, is one such vessel — an 86-metre floating retreat complete with beauty salon, massage suite, and Technogym.
In Dubai, a commitment to eco-innovation means reducing emissions through hybrid propulsion and clean-fuel systems. The Sunreef Yachts Eco 43 m, winner of the 2025 German Innovation Award, offers “emissions-free cruising” alongside a tranquil spa pool.
Oceanco’s 101-metre superyacht concept, Lily — unveiled at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show — is redefining what a mobile wellness retreat looks like. Inspired by the organic symmetry of a water lily, its tiered decks unfold like petals floating serenely across the sea, blending architectural grace with environmental consciousness.

But this superyacht is not only visually arresting — it’s a masterclass in sustainable innovation. Designed with the next era of yachting in mind, Lily integrates cutting-edge eco-technologies including Oceanco’s Energy Transition Platform (ETP), advanced hybrid Dynafin propulsion, and methanol-reforming fuel cells — innovations that dramatically reduce emissions while maintaining smooth, near-silent navigation.
Yet Lily proves that sustainability and indulgence need not be at odds. Every detail embodies refined eco-luxury — from shaded lounging areas that protect against UV exposure to tranquil wellness zones, a fully equipped gym, and a striking open-deck swimming pool. It’s a vessel that balances responsibility with decadence, inviting travellers to experience the art of mindful luxury at sea.

Cookson Adventures takes this concept even further, offering philanthropic yacht expeditions that blend wellness, exploration, and conservation in some of the world’s most breathtaking locations. Guests can join meaningful missions — from rehoming endangered tortoises and tagging sharks to diving off Cocos Island in support of marine research — all while enjoying the comfort and exclusivity of a luxury vessel.

Each voyage encourages travellers to reconnect with the natural world while giving back to it. Guests have rehomed giant tortoises by helicopter, tagged sharks alongside marine biologists, and even assisted in the discovery of a new species of killer whale — proof that purposeful travel can be just as thrilling as it is restorative.
One standout journey, the Cocos Island Expedition — set around 500km off the Costa Rican coast — bills itself as an “underwater paradise.” Passengers venture beneath the waves in a private submersible to measure young hammerhead sharks and collect vital data alongside conservation scientists. It’s an extraordinary experience that merges the serenity of luxury yachting with the urgency of environmental action — a true embodiment of living in the present with purpose.

Final Thoughts
This latest evolution of luxury travel shows that UHNWIs are increasingly choosing calm over chaos — and that health truly is wealth.
Gone are the days when superyachts were mere status symbols. Whether it’s on-board yoga studios, cryo-chambers, or on-shore conservation work, yacht providers are placing wellbeing at the forefront.
The uniquely isolated setting of a superyacht at sea allows for experiences that are restorative, gentle, and good for the soul. Sustainability efforts by innovators like Oceanco and Sunreef ensure those moments of serenity are guilt-free.
These vessels treat wellness holistically — combining mindful nutrition, physical movement, and guided reflection. Cookson Adventures’ reciprocal model amplifies self-care through care for others.
If you’d like to join the joy of missing out, switch things up this season and take a dive into a floating wellness retreat.
